A charley horse is not an injury, but a
involuntary, insistent and painful contraction of
one or more muscles. A muscle, in a normal state, contracts and stretches, but in some cases
it does not relax and remains contracted, i.e. shortened. A charley horse is a muscle contraction
involuntary, which gives rise to a swelling, also known as a knot. The area remains hard and
swollen.
This contraction reduces movement and can be very painful. Also, it can affect i
adjacent muscles, creating more charley horse.
It can be caused by intense physical activity, by an incorrect one
posture/nutrition or states of anxiety.
A charley horse as well as being a state in itself
of muscle pain thatworsens the quality of our life, depending
of locations can
also be due tosevere migrainesAnd
if neglected, increase the risk of injuryas elongations e
muscle tears. We get to injuries because our body has an innate ability to
endure pain, so we tend to carry contractures with us too
for very long periods, learning to live with them, adopting compensation strategies, or
getting used to increasingly limited motions instead of trying to remove them, or maybe
pharmacological therapies are used that remove the pain but not the cause.
